ABOUT
Paul Ewart is a Bondi-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice draws on more than two decades of international storytelling, image-making and cultural observation.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Paul studied at Manchester School of Art before completing an honours degree in Politics and Media Studies.
He went on to forge an award-winning 20-year career as a senior journalist and television producer, working across print, digital and broadcast media in the UK, Middle East and Australia.
That career has taken Paul from major newsrooms and television studios to international fashion shoots, celebrity portraiture and destinations around the world — experiences that continue to inform a visual practice built around narrative, identity and perspective.
Today, he works across sculpture, painting and hand-finished fine-art photography, bringing the instincts of a lifelong storyteller to an increasingly ambitious contemporary art practice. In 2026, Paul was selected to exhibit at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi, marking a major milestone in the evolution of his work.
Ancient mythology, classical form, the human body and the natural environment recur throughout Paul’s work. His ongoing Janus series uses the two-faced Roman deity to explore duality, ideological division and the instability of contemporary truth, while other works dismantle traditional archetypes of masculinity to examine queerness, vulnerability and the identities we construct and perform.
The human form provides another constant. Informed by a 17-year yoga practice and an enduring fascination with anatomy, balance and physical geometry, Paul explores the point at which body and environment begin to merge. In his Form & Fissure photographic series, human contours intersect with the ancient sandstone, tidal pools and weathered crevices of Sydney’s coastline, transforming the landscape from backdrop into an active extension of the body itself.

Paul has lived in Bondi for more than a decade and works from his home studio there, alongside his husband and two rescue dogs.
The coastline and its shifting relationship between body, architecture and natural environment remain an important part of Paul's visual language.
